Relaxation
By M.H.D.H. (11 years)

I lie back down.
My thoughts spin around.
I relax into a world of fantasies.
Jungles, oceans, lakes, forests.
Your voice takes me into and out of my relaxation.
My thoughts are free to be.
Now I wake from my reverie.
I love my relaxation.

Other issues: Helping children cope with crisis.

Class Descriptions
Children's Yoga (ages 3-6) allows children to use their imagination in animal poses, yoga games, learn about breathing and anatomy and explore their abilities in a comfortable environment.

Children's Yoga (ages 6-10) Older children have more balance, but are less flexible. They enjoy longer relaxation and mediation thats timulates their imagination nad creativity. The children explore exercises for muscle strength, flexibility and balance, build self-awareness through breathing and movement, and study aspects of anatomy and healthy lifestyle.

Yoga for Teens can improve your fitness, health, and self-confidence. As the body is growing the proportional strength of bones, muscles, and ligaments change. Yoga helps correct tightness or weakness. Relaxation and guided meditation is an important element of the practice to help manage the demands of daily life. Teens have very different requirements from either children or adults. Bring your friends and have fun together!

Family Yoga gives an opportunity for parent(s) and child(ren) to practice yoga together. We do vigorous breathing, strengthen the muscles through yoga, improve the flexibility of the spine, enjoy guided relaxation and laugh a lot. Minimum age is 8 years.

Fitness Yoga is a form of yoga where one pose flows to the next. There are many standing poses to build strength, flexibility and balance.

Kundalini yoga is called the yoga of awareness. Dynamic movement is linked with rhythmic breathing. The sets (kriyas as taught by Yogi Bhajan) combine breathing, stretches, posture and meditation to invigorate the body, balance the glandular system and strengthen the nervous system.  It can be aerobic, or it can be quiet and reflective, but it is always a unique and uplifting experience.  Kundalini yoga sets and meditations can be done by people of varying fitness levels. By proper breathing and leaning in the right direction of the exercises, you will benefit and utilize your creative potential.

Pilates is a set of exercises that strengthen the core muscles, build endurance and improve coordination. The emphasis is on concentration on specific muscle groups that stabilize the spine and keep the pelvic alignment. These are flowing movements with deep breathing. It is a wonderful complement to yoga. Pilates improves your strength and physical well-being. The Beginning Pilates class moves more slowly with careful attention to form. Pilates Flow is a vigorous class for those with prior Pilates experience or fit beginners.

Pilates for Kids are classic Pilates exercises combined with cross body movements are excellent for gaining strength in muscles that stabilize the spine. We focus on coordination, concentration and movement with proper breathing so that good form can be used in other types of sports (ages 9 and up).

Restorative yoga classes include poses which use bolsters, blankets, blocks, chairs, or straps to completely support the body and aid in softening the muscles, gently opening the joints, and creating space for breathing. For relaxation, toning the whole body, and for enjoyable companionship.

Sivananda Yoga: Proper breathing, proper exercise, proper relaxation. These exercises promote strength, balance and flexibility with careful attention to alignment of the body. They are designed to move the spine in all directions. Strengthen the abdominals and back muscles, increase shoulder and joint mobility, relax in restorative yoga poses for a comprehensive workout.

Advice:

Private Instruction

People choose private instruction to start a yoga or Pilates practice, to learn more advanced yoga poses, to fit fitness into their busy schedules, to work on specific physical needs, or to relax in a comfortable environment. During a first session we would check out the major muscle groups and joints to test for range of motion and strength. Then an individualized yoga program will be designed with exercises that can be done on your own.

Sample exercises

Cost: $60 for 60 minutes, $80 for 90 minutes, or $55 per class for a four week session.
